Where else is Vetiver Grass used?

Vetiver Grass has been used in a diverse range of rehabilitation cases across Australia over a number of decades, including the below examples in Queensland and Western Australia.

Notably, in Western Australia, the grass is approved for use statewide and is not assigned to any control category for a local government area at this time.

The City of Mandurah has implemented the use of Vetiver Grass as part of the liquid waste management program at the Tims Thicket Waste Management Facility.  In this case, Vetiver Grass is used as a ‘polish’ for the wastewater after other forms of treatment, specifically in the case of escape from containment pools.

Mindarie Regional Council have implemented Vetiver Grass as a water contaminant containment and treatment system to reduce the nutrient loading of the wastewater collected from garbage truck wash.

In Queensland, Teys Bros Abattoir uses vetiver grass in its water ponds to treat wastewater. In this application, the Vetiver Grass absorbs the pollutants. The grass has been established on floating pontoons in the effluent ponds to reduce nutrient levels and eliminate algae before release into wetlands.

Also in Queensland, the Mackay district Vetiver Grass plantations have been used in sugar cane farming to support waterway rehabilitation and continue to be used as part of the environmental rehabilitation program.
